BSF did not kill Nepali national: Indian Embassy

The Indian Embassy in Nepal has denied that the Border Security Force (BSF) shot a Nepali dead in Kanchanpur on Thursday.
Issuing a statement, it has categorically denied that there was any incident of firing by the BSF. "There is a need to maintain calm and let the survey officials of both sides discuss the location of border pillars before any construction work is undertaken," the statement reads.
District officials in India have been directed to cooperate to defuse the situation, according to the statement.
One Nepali national was killed and around five others injured earlier on the day after BSF opened fire on Nepalis on the issue of construction of a culvert at the Nepal-India border area despite prior agreement with India to build a temporary structure.
Govinda Gautam, 20, of Ananda Bazar-6 breathed his last at the CP Hospital in Dhangadi where he was taken after being shot on waist. BSF opened fire on Nepalis who were protesting after the Indian side stopped construction of the culvert when bricks had already been laid.
CDO of Kanchanpur Manohar Prasad Khanal said agreement had been reached a month back after bilateral talks with the Indian side to construct temporary structure now and build a permanent one after settling the border dispute through the bilateral mechanism. "But the BSF personnel came to the site Wednesday night and manhandled Nepalis saying bricks were laid while constructing temporary structure," CDO Khanal added.
